Why Cornalepsy?

Invisible disabilities deserve visible understanding.

I live with narcolepsy, and that experience is part of the story behind Cornalepsy. The popcorn, the sleepy sheep, and the playful name give me a way to share something joyful while opening a conversation about something people often don’t see.

I care about my work. I have ideas, ambition, and things I want to create. I also need rest, flexibility, and understanding. All of those things can be true at once.

You can see my booth.
You can’t see everything it took to be here.

My hope is that you leave with a treat you love and a little more understanding for the person behind it.

What is narcolepsy?

Narcolepsy is a long-term neurological condition that affects how the brain regulates sleep and wakefulness. It can cause overwhelming daytime sleepiness, even after enough sleep at night.

Some people also experience cataplexy—brief episodes of muscle weakness, often brought on by strong emotions. Symptoms and their effects on everyday life vary from person to person.

This is a brief introduction. The NIH resource explains symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment in more detail.

Understanding starts small.

  • Listen when someone tells you what they need.
  • Make room for breaks and flexibility.
  • Remember that what you see in one moment doesn’t tell someone’s whole story.

A little patience and kindness can make it easier for someone to feel welcome.
